Re: Burbling and Popping on over-run.
thanks for the replies. :D have retightened all exhaust nuts/bolts today a couple had loosened very slightly since fitting, no early signs of sooty deposits to 'telltale' of an air leak yet, pretty sure its all good and airtight. checked the sparkplug colour though, and they're white, which indicate...

Burbling and Popping on over-run.
Fitted my new VW Speedshop stainless exhaust today, four hours of sweating and swearing, mainly getting the old buggr off, and on the whole, very pleased with it, a bit 'frutier' sounding, but not too loud or chavvy. :D been getting some burbling and popping noises tho, on over run/coasting off the ...

Re: Exhaust SS or Original
also worth noting, that the LA Performance/VW Speedshop stainless systems which look identical, are not 100% stainless, some of the bolt up flanges are stainless, some are mild steel, on the same system, which seems to defeat the object somewhat to me.

Not recommended, but hitting the side of a golf at 30mph worked well on my front one!

Re: No first or reverse gears
Classic symptoms of the end of the mainshaft snapping off where the circlip groove weakens it! the bearing falls to bits and leaves the shaft poorly supported, then one day you hear a slight clunk, and no more 1st and reverse. take off the end casting of the box (furthest from engine) to confirm. th...

Re: Bad Earth
most auto accessory type shops will have different length earth straps for just a few quid, may be worth getting one if your cable from the scrappy doesn't have terminals on it, then earth one of the starter mounting bolts directly to a good clean solid bit of the body with a nut and bolt, also, che...

Re: Rocker Cover Moves when Engine On
these spring clips are often bent, mangled, put on the wrong way up, and don't hold the cover on well enough, if its knkrd they're pretty cheap to buy new tho, and should need a good shove to move them/click them into place when they fit right, as you prob know, make sure the gasket doesn't move bef...

Re: 2.1 distributor question
can you put the working hall sender baseplate from the working 2.0a/c dist in the 2.1 dist? its fairly simple, circlips and screws to be removed/replaced, the haynes manual covers it. i assure you it will fit, alternatively, just campers do new ones for around 60 quid. prob non genuine vw tho at tha...

Re: Reset New Speedo
Combes... are they more strict on kph speedo's on the mot in ireland, as my lhd van passed the mot several years running with a kph speedo over here in the uk mainland? i just have strips of fluro orange stick on label at the relevant 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 mph points on mine. (checked with a satnav)...

Re: 2.1 distributor question
Scotjock.. could you swap the internal bob weights over from your original 2.1 DJ dist. into the 2.0 A/C one to correct the flat spots? also i found that cleaning the rotating hall sender base plate parts with brake cleaner while i had it out, and giving them just a spot of 3in1 oil on the middle ro...

Re: 2.1 distributor question
although obviously the correct one would be ideal, I've been doing some work on a 2.0 Aircooled, and had to get the dist. to bits to repair a wire on the hall sender base plate, and thought it all looked identical to the dist. on my 2.1DJ to be honest. the cap has a different style of plug lead end ...

Re: Power steering fluid... does it ever need changing??
looking into the job further, and it seems the seals in the power steering rack have gone... the rubber gaiters either end of the rack are half full of ATF fluid! they've been doing a good job of containing the fluid so no tell tale leaks to show that the seals had gone. had a look at whats involved...

Re: Power steering fluid... does it ever need changing??
Aidan... Wasn't aware that there was a filter, so thanks for that, will def locate it and change it, and Toomanytoys... that does sound like a quicker way of getting rid of the old contaminated dirty fluid... many thanks for the advice to those who have replied!
