dj 2.1 poss ecu falt? help!

hi all, got a problem i want to share with you all that has grounded my mates 2.1 water boxer. prod is once engine is up to temp and hot and then switched off it point blank refuses to start. starter motor engage but mo injection. leave it fore a few minutes and it fires? at this point there is 12v to the correct pins on ecu but no voltage out? saying that we have had 5v dc output from ecu at times. so big question everyone, any ideas? ecu been sent away fore repair and still giving same prob? could it be another component that has a hold over ecu in engine bay that is failing with heat soak? have also tested with ecu outside engine bay and cool to touch. any help or experience's would be grate ta much
