I believe tampering with the recorded mileage may be illegal :whistle .... and in extreme cases result in you showering with other men (in a non-Michael Barrymore styleee) for several months. :tsk

I rely on the "Plus 65 thou" post-it-note in the ashtray technique

It only illegle if it done for gain isn't it?

Can't gain much by adding 50000 miles

I just want my replacement speedo to match my old one.

Pull the needle off its spindle, remove the face (2 screws), remove the hair-spring from the spindle, unscrew the parts that hold the number wheels in place on their spindle, move the wheels to where you want them, re-assemble. The hair-spring can be an a*** to get right, it`s VERY fine and if you get it located too tight or too slack the speedo will read fast or slow, which can take a bit of fiddling / adjusting to get right afterwards :?

If you buy a "re-conditioned" speedo they usually come with zero miles on them, as did mine when I swapped it :) If you have info to back up the original miles it`s not an issue anyway, it`s like buying a brand-new speedo from VW and fitting that, there`s a difference between knocking off a few thousand miles and fitting one with zero miles on it.
Keep it real.

hi

Post by billy739 »

have one hear, all types, an 805 speedo comes with or without trip meter!

i can adjust the reading on the speedo much easier, i have done it in under 2 minutes with the speedo in my hand. and no way of telling its been done.

its not illegal as long as you dont do it to try and hide the true milage, so as long as you declare the sppedo change regardless of the reading your ok.
are you atthe bus stop over.

my method also fixes jammed readings! and i have never had one stop working yet after fixing it.

Hi there - i know this was posted some time ago - but just wondered whether you are still trading -interested in obtaining a MPH speedo for a 1991 1.6 Diesel LHD T25 . I need to replace the original KPH with a MPH face to get it through its MOT.Will need to get the mileageon the odemeter altered to match the original KPH as well.
Cheers
