Re: Welding panel seams?
Thanks guys, I've found some great info searching for "Metalmick8y".
If I can get away with just replacing the arches I think I just need to weld from underneath, but if any more metal needs replacing I'll have to work out how to remove the camping interior

Welding panel seams?
I've been learning how to MIG weld and have done a couple of simple repairs to my T25 and now feel brave enough to tackle the rotten rear arches! One thing I'm concerned about though is how to weld the seams of the replacement panels? Should they be done from inside the van? I fear that welding the ...

Re: JX Diesel manual alternative?
I've been using a Golf & Jetta Diesel 78-84 Haynes manual for my JX, it hasn't steered me wrong - yet

I just noticed that my JX block has 1.6D cast onto the block, does that mean it shouldn't have a turbo either?

1.6TD JX to 1.9 Skoda AEF
Hi
Would it be very crazy to replace my worn out JX with an AEF, and keep the turbo?
I've been offered a good freebie AEF and have read up on what's involved to convert, but I'm wondering whether I'd get away with retaining the (nearly new) JX turbo, manifolds and injection pump?
Thanks

Re: Dead head? (JX)
Thanks Steve that's great info. I'll see if I can find someone to pressure test it, and check the ring gaps.

Dead head? (JX)
Before I fork out on another head I'd like a second opinion please? The crack between the valves on the left looks like it's doing no harm, but the other one looks more serious as it is stepped. I'm hoping I've finally found the cause of my high oil consumption / high crankcase pressure? http://i406...

Re: JX faulty CCV breather?
I'll do the bottle test asap, will a plastic one be ok? Not sure I like the idea of glass rattling around in the engine bay
Thanks for your help Dave

Re: JX faulty CCV breather?
I haven't had the cover off so I don't know what's under there yet unfortunately.
If I disconnect the breather the air is blue - like an old car's exhaust.

Re: JX faulty CCV breather?
is the camshaft fitted with the plastic cover? are you sure the oil in the inlet isnt from the turbo? No it has a metal cover, I didn't know there was a plastic one as well? And yes quite sure about the turbo - I've already replaced a good one with an even better recon unit, and anyway the oil seem...
