Welding panel seams?

Post by Woolf »

I've been learning how to MIG weld and have done a couple of simple repairs to my T25 and now feel brave enough to tackle the rotten rear arches!

One thing I'm concerned about though is how to weld the seams of the replacement panels? Should they be done from inside the van? I fear that welding the seams from the outside might look messy :?

I would suggest you look at some of Metalmick8y's pictoral threads and see a master at work.

It all depends if your just doing the lower rear arches, or doing the full quarter panels. Either way the majority of the welding on new panels is spot welds on the insides.

Thanks guys, I've found some great info searching for "Metalmick8y".

If I can get away with just replacing the arches I think I just need to weld from underneath, but if any more metal needs replacing I'll have to work out how to remove the camping interior :(

Heat in an air cooled! Marvellous  Actually I shouldn't ridicule a van fire. Very serious. Be careful when welding, I've only set one vehicle on fire. Mindst you it was only a Datsun Violet  Still very dangerous though 'cos I was down in a pit with the car above
