Before I fork out on another head I'd like a second opinion please?
The crack between the valves on the left looks like it's doing no harm, but the other one looks more serious as it is stepped. I'm hoping I've finally found the cause of my high oil consumption / high crankcase pressure?
High crankcase pressure is usually a sign of worn rings not valves, small crack between the ports are acceptable and will cause no problem and is very usual for this engine, however before you go and spend in excess of £400 on a new one take it to you local diesel engine specialist and ask them to pressure test it, cost you a lot less and you will know then if it really does need replacing or not.
