Re: Carburettor/weak mixture

I have just replaced the leads, rotor arm and distributor cap, so all should be sound there. I had issues with water in the fuel a couple of years ago, so I know the signs for that all too well...not fun at all! This does seem to be presenting somewhat differently. I've been out in the van today, ju...

Re: Carburettor/weak mixture

Thanks toomanytoys. I don't think it is the idle cut off valve as it idles well and runs fine most of the time. It is only when the engine is hot after prolonged use that it will not hold. I think this is due to it running on such a weak mixture. The fuel pump was replaced about 2 years ago, so I'm ...

Carburettor/weak mixture

I just got my van (1990 Automatic) back from a service and the mechanic reported a few problems with stalling after cleaning out the carb etc. He put it down to residual dirt, and thought he had sorted it by cleaning out the carb again. After a long run the van began to die at low revs, but was fine...

As my poor van spent most of last summer laid up with some or other mechanical failure my daughter and me often used to take our dinner out and eat in the van. In fact the first week we had it we had fish and chips on the driveway! Unfortunately the road we live on is a bit too busy for me when it c...

I have a Halfords Fortress steering lock which is quick and easy to put on. I also installed a motion sensor in the main body of the van. They are reasonably priced, remotely activated, and produce an eardrum splitting siren if anyone gets in!

I did use that method to check the level (thanks for explaining it so clearly)a nd it is just below the min mark, the confusion has arisen due to the fact that what is on the dipstick does not resemble Dextron 2 which my mechanic thought it would have in it, and what I really don't want to do is put...

Automatic transmission fluid

I need to top up my transmission fluid on my van - 1900cc Automatic transmission 1990 Transporter model. I do not have the original manual, and Haynes just says Dextron ATF. However, I asked my local garage if they had any (as Halfords were useless and said they did not carry the correct fluid - acc...

Stalling?

In the last few days my van has started to stall at traffic lights etc. It runs fine and idles, but when I touch the accelerator to move off it often stalls, and it can take a few attempts to move off without loosing it again. It does seem a bit 'lumpy' at idle, and the problem actually seems to get...

Grab Handles

Is it possible to fit a grab handle on the driver side? I have two plastic blanking plugs in the position it would be. I would like one on my side as it would be better, and safer than grabbing the steering wheel to haul myself up on, as I have found on many occasions when the wheel turns and I end ...

Rear Wiper control

I seem to find it very difficult to switch the rear wiper on and off. Sometimes when I think I have put it off it keeps going, and I really have to be hard on the stalk to get it to go, and when I do turn it off it throws up another jet of water and a single wipe before it goes off. It can be stubbo...

Thanks! Glad thats a mystery solved for me. I was having another look at it when I was fiddling about in the van this afternoon, there is no way on earth there is enough access to open it, let alone try to fill it! So I hope Fox McIntyre is right and that the rear washer water comes from the front b...

Just been doing the rounds of advertising my car, including putting it on here :D
Someone put me on to Freeads its totally free to advertise, they make their money from folk calling up to contact buyers, but a friend of a friend sold their car on there in 3 days, so may be worth a go!
