Re: Biggest tyre on original 14" steels
Here's a list of standard combinations. According to this, at least the 215s would require 6" wide rims (like syncro steelys): 135 3,5 - 4,5 145 3,5 - 5,0 155 4,0 - 5,0 165 4,0 - 5,5 175 4,5 - 6,0 185 4,5 - 6,5 195 5,0 - 7,5 205 5,0 - 8,5 215 6,0 - 8,5 225 6,0 - 9,0 235 6,5 - 9,5 245 8,0 - 9,5 ...

Re: Roof Conversion
The small pop up roofs are from SCA (model 08 is for the T3/t25). Here's a site with a few images: http://www.koehler-wohnmobile.de/hubd.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Only info I can add to the statistics is that only 36 single cab 16" syncros were built

Re: Production figures.
Having a 14" / LDH / MV-motor / caravelle, I take comfort in the fact that spare parts are easier to find (and then, compared to aproximatly 1.3 million t25's that were built overall, every syncro is somewhat of a rare thing)

Re: 16" crewcab ELW FTA auction
Looks like one of the rare 16" "Flatheads" was at this year's Maikäfertreffen in Hannover. Took these pictures of it standing next to Henning Gramann's (Syncroservices) crewcab:

Re: New T3 Shell
I remember having seen a US spec one (with the holes in the sides for the extra vanangon lights) on the German Bay about a year ago - think it was a 2wd body though. There were some forum discussions over here about how to register a car with a "virgin" VIN (since this would mean you'd hav...

Re: Thinking of buying a Syncro....
Fuel consumption on a syncro is quite a bit higher. Have you got figures for that? Oh dear, metric system, we don't do mpg over here (we do Litres/100km). There are of course the official figures (taken from the VW tech-date sheet for 1989) according to this, the difference between a 2.1 MV engine ...

Re: Thinking of buying a Syncro....
For daily driver use, consider this:
Fuel consumption on a syncro is quite a bit higher (so think about TDI conversion or LPG)
Due to shorter gear ratio, your "cruising speed" is lower (well it is on the Autobahn at least)

Re: Another colour question :(
Like it a lot! It's called "viper-green metallic" (Viperngrün metallic). According to one post I found in a German Scirocco III forum, it's a reissue of a 1970s Scirocco I colour code (well according to that post, there were two different versions back then and the new green differs slight...

Re: Another colour question :(
Sorry, can't help with a colour code (top one looks like "text marker yellow" to me, if you're into it, go ahead, why not? Bottom one, judging from the the background looks like it's taken from the Essen Motor Show :ok ). Isn't there a link to "kath & theo" on the homepage wh...

Re: I want my boat on my roof
I think it's a VW "Varius" (they produced campers like Westfalia but had the option of either a fixed or a boat roof) - here's a link to some photos from a private homepage: http://www.cwr16.homepage.t-online.de/hp/varius.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Spare wheel mounting on Type 25
The spare does go under the front, but only if its a more or less standard size 14" spare. I've seen quite a few syncro drivers who use a Paulchen bike rack and attach their spare wheel there. They are far cheaper than spare wheel carriers and do the job without causing damage to the tailgate (...
