Roof Conversion
Hi there
Sorry this is a bit of a newbie question.
I've attached a photo of my van.
I am contemplating getting some sort of roof extension and I would appreciate some views on what would be the best (and best value) options to go for.
I know there are lots our there - some that are fixed and increase the height of the vehicle permanantly, some that pop up when needed then lower again, some square ones, others that open like a concertina, some called Jokers, and Westphalias and Holdsworth conversions etc etc
I think we can discount a "permanent" extension. I like the hight of the van as it is and I don't think they are as "pretty" with high roofs.
So, I guess that means I want one that I can extend when I get to a site and pop back down when I leave.
Another point is that we will seldom need to sleep any extra people "upstairs". I guess extra accommodation would be a "nice to have" but is not essential. What I really want is to be able to stand up straight and maybe have some extra light and storage space.
Could anyone please give me some ideas about where I should go, what I should ask for and how much I might expect to pay (supplied and fitted).
I am based in North London.
Thanks in advance.
Regards
Ian

Looking for the same thing for mine....
So far can only find o'connors campers that do it for you. Not interested in a kit cause of the messing around withthe trim.
Put devon type roof on my other van and it was a right ball ache so only considering westfalia type with the Atlantic front bit so I can use the sunroof.

Re: Roof Conversion
A westfalia roof won't fit on as they had different roof pressings specifically designed for the pop top to attach to.

Re: Roof Conversion
Pop tops are ok but I now have a high top and would never go down market again! loads of storage loads of insulation (pop tops are a tent at the end of the day so you have to make due with little insulation wrapped round)
Oh and they dont effect mpg and can look cool (well I think!)

Re: Roof Conversion
I think that for a van of that age, spending the money on the conversion might not be worth while, because they are really very expensive things, just to be able to stand up?
Is the tin top really bugging you? I think spending it on the interior may well be a better investment, you can gut and put in totally new furniture for what a roof will cost. And adding a new roof, down goes the MPG.
Get the pink leopard skin interior you've always wanted.

Re: Roof Conversion
I've seen a few vans with a small pop up section that simply allows you to stand up - no beds or storage involved. No idea where to source them though

Re: Roof Conversion
The small pop up roofs are from SCA (model 08 is for the T3/t25). Here's a site with a few images: http://www.koehler-wohnmobile.de/hubd.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Roof Conversion
Those small square pop-tops look good, but they don't really add a lot for your money. Okay, you can stand up in the central area, but it doesn't add any sleeping space. If you're going to pay out big bucks, you may as well have a westie one installed, and gain an extra two bed spaces upstairs. Try Syncrospares.
