the plastic seat in which it resides is badly worn, so the nylon ring that is 31 just comes off after a few gear changes. I've changed the nylon ring for a new one, no difference.

Inspected the brakes today as the nearside front was whistling constantly. Calliper is sticking, one badly worn pad and one "as new" pad on there, so replaced that, fitted a bigger, stronger hose clip to the oil line that popped off, took the seat covers off and washed them, and also fitted the Smiths heater we have had stashed away for a year and a half to the Moggy Minor and serviced it.
Quite a productive day, still no further on with the gearshift issue though!

How do, Julian? I'm still driving the Caravelle that you once told me belonged to a mate of yours. It's just had a back-to-bare-metal resto. It's hard to believe it's been nearly twenty years since I bought it.
