€7,500 does sound a wee bit expensive for a van with those faults - unless it really is rust free.
You said the faults would be fixed. Is that at his expense or at yours?
The gas struts can be replaced fairly cheaply with heavy duty ones capable of lifting the bike rack (without the bikes, of course!) so that should not be a real worry. I replaced mine a few months back for £35, and the back hatch near takes my chin off when I open it now. Always replace them as a pair. It's false economy to only replace one, even if only one is faulty.

My first worry would be any bodywork rust, as this is the most expensive item to put right, next engine and/or mechanical problems and last of all, air conditioning (unless you plan on going to some hot countries on your travels?).
