OOoops, thanks - I hadn't even spotted the alternative engine forum so have asked in there now.

will this engine fit?

I've looked at the wiki and dont get it, please can somebody tell me if my 'van will take a 1.9Tdi engine from a T-reg Passat? What problems will Clever Mechanic encounter if I ask him to do this? I'd sort of agree with you both - I love my pop-top to bits, but sometimes when I've chucked the kids up top for bed and it's too cold or wet to sit outside, I do wish I had more headroom to potter around inside the van. Having said that, I can get mine into most car parks etc without worrying about...

Mine's a 1600d, not quite powerful enough for the hilly terrain here so I'd recommend at least going for one with a turbo.
