Tdi engine....

Post by rachelann »

Firstly, please be patient with me, I have read the wiki and loads of posts but it really doesnt make any sense to me yet.

I have a 1.6 diesel, no turbo. I love my 'van but it's flat. I have the chance of a good 1.9Tdi from a t-reg Passat (free) - have the entire car so the ECU (whatever that is) etc is all there. I have Clever Mechanic offering to do the work for a good price and I trust him very much.

What I need to know from you folk is:

1/ Is this do-able?
2/ What snags is Clever Mechanic likely to encounter?
3/ Are there any predictable extra expenses?

In layperson's terms please!!!!

1. yes
2. lots
3. will need gear ratio's changing

Mechanic does not sound to clever to me to be doing it for £600-800, i think he will regret taking it on.

You will spend several thousand to do it properly, 1.9TD would be MUCH cheaper and in my opinion is much better sutied to a t25.
