I've looked at the wiki and dont get it, please can somebody tell me if my 'van will take a 1.9Tdi engine from a T-reg Passat?
What problems will Clever Mechanic encounter if I ask him to do this? How expensive is it likely to be? All advice very gratefully received!
The engine is a good'un and has just been given to me, seems a shame not to use it - my poor 1.6d struggles with the hills round here

You need to look in the alternative engine forum and read up on it in there.. TDI fitting isnt as straight forward or easy as it seems.. but dont throw the engine away just yet.......

As to many toys says - its not a simple conversion. Putting the motor is the van is easy. Its the electrics with the TDI engine which is the bitch.
Do a search on the 1Y engine, thats the easiest way to a little bit more power.

OOoops, thanks - I hadn't even spotted the alternative engine forum so have asked in there now.
I have the whole Passat so Clever Mechanic believes it's a goer

Yes in that case its a good conversion, but look into getting the gearbox uprated as its a hell of a lot more power and the box wont like that. You will also find the gearing of your standard 1.6 too low for it and it will be revving its head off. Thats where it will get expensive.
