Re: Decent mechanic in Edinburgh?

Gary Burgess 07834 600725 based in Newtongrange. Has done work for me and knows his stuff? He's based beside Sam at PFP Coachworks. So you can pretty much get anything you need doing there.

Re: 1.9DG just stopped runnung.

As above check the main things first. It could be a number of things but what about the timing, could it be out. The reason I say this is I recently had a similar fault. It turned out that the bottom of the distributed had worn where it inserts into the engine causing the rotor arm to be 180 degrees...

Re: Coil Wiring 1.9DG

Thanks Itchyfeet. I just wanted to update the post to say that I did get this up and running Ok in the end. I think it was a combination of things but mainly that the battery had just started to become too weak, even after being fully charged, to crank it over. Also after rotating the dizzy to get t...

Coil Wiring 1.9DG

Hello I have a 1.9DG 1984 and the other week my original dizzy failed as the shaft was loose and kept slipping. I decide to swap this for a Powerspark to hopefully save time getting one refurbished. I installed the SVDA 034 electronic distributor and matching coil from Simon BBC and got it running f...

Re: T25 Radio

Hi Don’t really know about new retro radios but what about a MP3 Radio, you can get sony’s from Halfords and Argos for around £50 and cheaper makes elsewhere. Also then are not as deep. All you do is put you music on a USB stick via your PC and you can play them direct from that. Saves mucking about...

Re: Radiator fan swap - any tips?

I replaced my rad on my own and used a jack to take the weight off the lower brackets so I could undo them. I ended up having to cut the heads off the bracket bolts with a grinder as the nuts were just spinning. The captive nut clip wasn’t holding the nuts properly so once off I had to spot weld new...

Re: Gearbox ID

Thanks for that Aidan, :ok

I can see some markings in that area now but unfortunately they are just too difficult to read. Never mind the main thing is that its working, and from what I’ve read, a 4 speed is possible a better box for me. Thanks again

Gearbox ID

Hello I have a 1.9 DG 1985, the code on the sticker in the cab says it a code ABN, 5 speed gearbox, The gearbox must have been changed by another owner as it only a 4 speed now. I am trying to find out what gearbox its been changed to but I can’t find the markings on the gearbox itself, even after t...

Re: Preheating Thermoswitch

Thanks kevtherev, I know what you mean, its not a big issue but just a job I wanted to resolve if I could. I was trying to make sure that the choke heater came on OK so I could get the choke to go off a soon as possible. I managed to get another thermoswitch from Cool Air VW, it was part number 0359...

Preheating Thermoswitch

hi I have a 1.9 DG and I think I need a new thermoswitch for the inlet manifold, carb and choke preheating. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8520/8638276010_9e398c6bb8.jpg Any ideas where I can get another one, also in case the preheat relay (no 1) in the black box is also broken can anyone advise wher...

Re: Refitting a Pierburg

I’ve removed the carb to check over the float and all seams OK, it’s not punctured or sticking, that I can tell, but that’s not to say it was sticking when I originally tested it. I’ve not refitted it back on yet to test it again but when speaking to the company who refurbished it they ask me if it ...

Refitting a Pierburg

I’ve replaced my Weber 34 DAT carb which was fitted to 1.9 DG when I got it. I bought a used Pierburg from another DG engine and had the carb fully stripped and rebuilt. The Pierburg is now fitted but a couple of seconds after starting the engine petrol is coming out of small brass colour gauze whic...
