I have a 1.9DG 1984 and the other week my original dizzy failed as the shaft was loose and kept slipping. I decide to swap this for a Powerspark to hopefully save time getting one refurbished.
I installed the SVDA 034 electronic distributor and matching coil from Simon BBC and got it running for about 10 mins and turned it off. Today I’ve tried to start it again to finish off setting up the timing and couldn’t get it to start. I didn’t have enough time or day light to check everything over today but I just wanted to ask a question about my wiring to the coil.
I’ve read the post https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=146415 which was helpful but I wonder if I have connected this up properly. I removed the connections from the black box in the engine bay (the amplifier I think it’s called).
So my connections to the coils are:
• Negative (3 connections): one for the rev counter, one connection for the LPG relay and one for the black wire from the distributor.
• Positive (2 connections): red from distributor and a double black wire from the ignition.

The main thing I am not sure about is this double wire from the ignition, see the black wires on the coil in the photo, the one with the white plug. It’s a single spade terminal with 2 black wires on it, both wires and the terminal looks factory, but i could be wrong. Its only live when the ignition is on but should it have 2 wires to it, is that correct? I tried to trace the 2 black wires back and both are running to the black box in the engine bay which only has a relay and some connections in it now.
Could it be that this is not factory and there should only be one wire here.
If anyone can help give me a head start on what these 2 black wires are for, baring in mind the amplifier is now gone, that would be great .
Thanks
