Hello
I have a 1.9 DG 1985, the code on the sticker in the cab says it a code ABN, 5 speed gearbox, The gearbox must have been changed by another owner as it only a 4 speed now.
I am trying to find out what gearbox its been changed to but I can’t find the markings on the gearbox itself, even after trying to scrub the muck off it. I am looking at where the main section joins at the rear, below the drain plug, on the section that’s parallel to the ground. Is that the right area to be looking at, if it is it’s impossible to see any letters.
Is it stamped on another area, I am I looking in the right place?
Thanks.

Re: Gearbox ID
nearside, 4" below the reverse switch housing
chances are it'll be an ABD, it's stamped not cast into the case

Thanks for that Aidan,
I can see some markings in that area now but unfortunately they are just too difficult to read. Never mind the main thing is that its working, and from what I’ve read, a 4 speed is possible a better box for me. Thanks again
