Re: Carb problems
For the cost of a overhaul kit v a new carb, then yes, its worth a punt. Besides, its unlikely that you'd find a new carb off the shelf nowadays but there is a firm that offers a full rebuild service (Kev mentioned it recently I think.) As Ralph has said, the float valve is most common fault, as I d...

Re: Fisher Price - My first welding and fabrication
Hi, After months of putting it off as I was bricking it, I finally started tackling the tin worm issues on the top half of the van. So on the o/s/r quarter, under the track cover, there was a fair bit of crud which I was hoping I might get away with but after grinding back it was holed in quite a f...

Re: Carb problems
My first van gave very similar problems ( as per your original post) where the AA guy scratched his head and couldn't diagnose the fault. Upon being relayed home from Dorset  I bought a carb overhaul kit and replaced all the gaskets. My fault was in fact a leaky float valve, which gave overfue...

Washing up liquid, green swarfega, anything slippery really. Wipe if straight off your paintwork afterward in case it might stain or something

Re: Replacing Cab door seals inc quarter lights
Wind the window glass fully down.Remove the scrapers and pull the glass seals away There's a 10mm bolt that secures the upright runner to the door, plus a phillips screw at the top, through the door frame Then just yank the assy back to release it. Reassemble in reverse order; not a bad idea to lube...

Re: Van Stereo/Radio - What to do?
Welcome :ok I dont know what it would gave had fitted originally so can't help. However, modern radios will often foul the gubbins behind so buy a radio collar from, I think, Brikwerks. This fits between the radio and dash so as to allow cleared space behind. Although it makes the radio stick out an...

Re: Leak or condensation?
Welcome to the forum :ok This sounds more a leak than condensation. If it were me, then I would look on top of the roof and look at the seal from roof to skylight. It probably has a silicone type seal or a gasket, or both. If you aren't confident in distmantling it all to replace it's gasket, then y...

Re: Upgrading an in-line DS 1.8 petrol to a later 8v Gti petrol?
Thanks, Titus.
Since my posting this, from reading the Wikipedia notes on VW engines, it would appear that they are all pretty much the same, both diesel and petrol used the same block. So presumably the adaptor plate would also pick up a later engine. I'll pm Emma, thank you.

Re: Etch primer then filler or vice versa....?
Hi All I'm doing some rust repairs to my van over the winter and my question is when ive welded in a patch and then want to use a skim of filler to blend it in, is it best to prime first and then filler, or filler first then prime? In other words filler onto bare metal or not...? My method would be...

Upgrading an in-line DS 1.8 petrol to a later 8v Gti petrol?
I'm thinking on buying a van that currently has a DS code early Golf petrol engine which replaced the old 1.9 DG motor. Can anyone tell me please if a later Golf engine, i.e the more commonly used 8v Gti would be a straightforward swap? Said van has an adaptor plate, perhaps an RJES one, I dont know...

It's a vestige from the panel van.
Fair enough, as there was a pool of water adjacent as shown in his image, I assumed that was the culprit. What marks do I get for effort

Re: Water drivers on side
You've said that the membrane is sound but there's nothing where the speaker wire is coming from? That would certainly ruin your door card and give a leak. Best to put a thick plastic box in there and seal it (providing the drop glass doesn't foul it of course) which stops the water ingress and will...
