Saab front seats

Post by foxley »

Hi
Has anyone fitted Saab seats to a t25.
Are they a straight slot on or does it require a lot of work?
Any advice appreciated.

Only standard T25 seats are a straight slot but the saab ones aren't too difficult. No grinding off the runners, no holes through the floorpan and wheel arches and you still retain the original runners if you ever want to go back to stock

The wiki copy is a jumbled mess so refer to this

One of the easiest though and it leaves only a very small footprint if you ever get fed up and want to go back to standard

The hardest bit is removing the height adjustment on the drivers seat

Thanks to the good "how to" guide even I could do it in an afternoon (and that's saying something).
The actual fiddling with the seat and runners is simple enough, the only pain is grinding off the height adjustment bit as Saab displays some thorough workmanship in Swedish steel there, nothing cheap or nasty that just falls off when you look at it sideways

All in all though a very worthwhile modification ...especially when you come from really well ridden plastic originals like I did ...the shapely and supportive Saab seats really help to improve the driving feeling immensely as your a***-o-meter finally makes contact with the car again and not just some piece of crumpled foam and plastic.

And not everybody can afford high-end original seats

Well fine examples are pricey it's true
However at VW shows I've noticed prices not so high, the good stuff goes quick but whats left is very salvagable and very cheap.
you see the VW seats are well constucted so re-upholstering and covering is easy

mine cost £130 to buy and £280 to re-upholster.

I've been thinking for a while about getting some saab seats but reading this thread/links too much grief so I'll stick with me vw originals that match the rear. They're nice but the passengers got two golf ball size holes from some welding mishap but will do till I get some captains, yeah those armrests look the business.

I wouldn't call it grief. It's actually pretty straight forward, even for a Londoner

Just fitted some. If you have front swivel bases then they sit quite high. My answer was to take out the swivel base on the drivers side only, partly as I never ever used it when camping and partly because I'm quite tall. Must say that if you choose the right colour they do look good, feel good and sound deaden a bit more than the orig ones too i'd say. I was looking at loads of other seats before getting saab ones and trhink some rover and other makes, e.g. late toyota sports cars type things tend to have a flatter base to start with so may require less fettling to get in. Good luck. NB If you are anywhere near North London then Neo Bros in Wlatham Cross have a whole room full of saab seats! :D

I,m commited to the Saab seats now they are here.
They are in good nick but dirty so I'm having them professionly cleaned.
Kev's Captain seats in the photo make me feel envious, they look fantastic.
I'll have a go at fitting the Saab's myself, anyone got an angle grinder they don't want?
I'm a Mancunian as it happens so I should be OK.

Originally were the headrests the standard ones that you can see through Kev?
