What Jack for a Standard T25?

Big lumps of metals and spanners.

What Jack for a Standard T25?

Post by sorebums »

Just bought (my first) t25 - 1990 Hi-top.

It didn't come with a wheel brace or a jack (unless they're hidden away somewhere).

What jack do people recommend to pack on the bus (not a 10 ton trolley jack!)

Thanks

Simon

You can get a standard vw jack for these vans, some say they are good, some say they are rubbish, personally I don't trust them. I've got a 2ton trolley jack and stands from Argos at a reasonable price and wouldn't use anything less!

Jack the van

I reckon the standard jack is fine for emergency roadside wheels changes - provided the jacking points are good and strong - as in not unduly corroded. The jack is compact and reasonably light so good to keep in the camper at all times. A telescopic wheel nut tool is also a good move for the high torque that the nuts need.

For maintenance work at home different rules apply and I use a trolley jack and stands, ramps, wooden blocks etc according to the job in hand.

I use the standard jack for wheel changes etc, but for underneath the van I use the 'scrabble around in the dirt, get grease everywhere, rust flakes in my eyes, and bang my head on every prominent part' technique

One day I'll own an oversize garage with a pit... :D

Two options, Mr Chugster - axle stands or ramps - gets yer van up in the air and reduces the filth in eyes effect.

Damned site cheaper than an oversized garage and has less planning regulations!

Is it possible your jack is sitting inside the spare wheel?

OOOOPs! Mocki's right I should have said sitting on TOP of spare wheel...that's where my VW one lives...along with tool kit and spare electric hook-up cable.

On the very rare occasions they are required they can be accessed by removing the grill...not the spare wheel of course!
