Rusty Hole
Hiya,
I've got to the stage of needing to do some work on the camper as its gathering rust.
I'm grinding down the rust but have already found a spot where its rusted through... see attached photo
The camper is a 1991 T25 Trooper/Autosleeper.
What are my options in repairing this? Is it really a case of a new section or can it be patched in someway?
Cheers
Pete

Righty.. I've done a google but can't actually find any direct replacement panels for my camper.. by replace the panel do you mean a whole new panel on that side or get a garage to patch it with a new metal panel patch kinda thing
Cheers
Pete

Re: Rusty Hole
And remember that when you move the fridge and panels behind it I am afraid you will likely find a load more rust on the inside. Mind you not to worry too much, lots of folks on here have faced that one and come out the other side figuratively speaking, ( though that was a good tho accidental pun
)

Got a new van, but it's a 165bhp T4 [shock horror] Accurate LPG Station map here

Also read Metalmick8y's thread "body or lack of it" as recent pages also cover this area.
Expect a lot more rust than you think but don't be scared of it
Its not unusual to see campers around with that seam welded over with a patch but its short lived. Best to tackle it and get it over and done with.

Re: Rusty Hole
I've found a welder that charges £28 an hour.. (I have no idea is this is good or bad to be honest) and can now source the panels (cheers guys) from Alan Schofield... I'm just not sure if this will turn into one hell of a major job that sucks me in and then at the end of it the cost and scale of job far out weighed the value of the van.
I can't see the point of replacing this one panel but leaving other panels which it joins with rusty seams... which will end in all the panels lol
I might attack anything with rust on it with the grinder and see what things look like... and then speak to garage bloke.

If you want a sensible price for the work go and speak to Weedspeed in Douglas.

Indeed. If you can cut down the amount of work he needs to do, you'll save a lot of time/money. Chickenkoop welded mine but the day before I cut sufficient to make it a case of tack, weld and go for him. I'd also rust treated anything I felt needed it too. I left him clean shiney metal to weld to but otherwise it was a case of four clamps and off he went. Pays you to have the panel so you know what needs cutting although the WIKI and MetalMick8y's great pics will be a good guide as to what has to go.
