In short a Digijet is electronic fuel injection with a separate electronic ignition, Digifant is combined programed ignition and fuel injection with a catalyst although this may have been removed, MV engine code uses Digifant and DJ Digijet. Digifant give more precise control of the injection and ignition giving better running and marginally better fuel consumption with the disadvantage everything is controlled from the ECU which may have to be replaced for either an ignition or injection fault. Digijet and Digifant where VW's adaption of Bosch Jetronic and Motronic systems.

Thanks guy's - great info. So for dummies - Digijet has a distributor and Digifant has a box of electrickeryonics? Digifant is technically more advanced, gives better running, and better mpg but when things go wrong its more complicated - yes??
Is there any difference in power and/or torque between the two systems? And, - off on a bit of a wild one here - how about ditching the lot and going carb ? ?

Don't laugh - several members have 2.1 with carbs - we have 3! All running LPG so carb is absolutely fine. Ok on petrol too - but put super unleaded in coz that's what the 2.1 likes!

Injection tends gives a better spread of power across the rev range rather than more top end power, with better fuel consumption, making a vehicle more drivable and more ecconomical, as the electronics are constantly monitoring and adjusting things, where as a carb is basically set for a specific situation with only basic adjustments available to it. Which is why all new vehicles come with injection rather than carbs
