Help needed with my NUTS!!!
Hello guys...............and gals!! (musn't forget them)
This is my first post and i have been told that if i need advice this is the place to ask! So Hello all from the newbie, I'm Rick from Sarf Lundon, it nice to meet you all!
My problem is this:
I am trying to overhaul my rear brakes and have spent a small fortune on new parts and tools to do the job, BUT, i cannot for love nor money remove the hub nuts!, I am not a small fella and even with my weight on the breaker bar i cannot crack the nuts, My question is this, has anyone else done this and if so HOW????? i am using a 2foot bar with an added tube and i still cant do it.
Before you ask "why are you trying to remove the hub nuts Rick if your overhauling the brakes?" the answer is the backplates are rusted at the bottom and i thought it would be a good idea to replace them at the same time!

Funny enough Im also from sunny south london (Croydon!) and had proper rank back plates (like many on here im sure) and last night had extreme difficulties getting me nuts off!!!!
Have a look at my thread (link below), dont think the hub nuts had ever been off my van and wouldnt budge, even with 3 blokes and a long hefty bar, only thing to do was get a grinder, chisel and hammer on it and split the nut, just be very careful not to cut into the hub or thread.
Placed and order with JustKampers about 5 minutes ago for 2 new Hub Nuts (only £4.50 each).

im only little , but found a good tight fitting socket decent breaker that wont break and a 10 foot scaffold tube done the biz on a couple of vans now just put it high enough and jump on the end

Oh God, Sounds like this is gonna be fun, I cant afford to buy any more parts as much as i would love too, I dont even want to add up the total of what this job has cost me so far? Where do i nick a scaffold bar from at this time of night 
My vans over in Croydon at the moment too, it's on a friends drive cos i wasn't sure how long it would be jacked up for and the Traffic wardens are all trained by the gestapo over here and i fear a van on jacks would to too tempting for them!.
Thanks for the replies though, i think?? other than leaving me cold they,ve been helpful, I would be interested in a bit more info on what other nightmares i can expect from doing this job if anyone cares to enlighten me?

I wished! You obviously didn't see how tight my nuts were... (so to speak!!)

...a scafold bar on a 3/4" drive long bar, with 3 blokes jumping on it and pushing it... trust me these nuts didnt even shift a mm!

If any of your neighbours have some scaffolding up have a look and see if there are any spare poles laying down the side of it thats not bolted down, could probably nick it for a few days without them noticing ...or pay a do-as-you-likey a few quid to go nick one from somewhere!
Oh South London traffic wardens, what lovely understanding folk they are

If you havent already get or hire a preassure washer (or another method recommended by folk wiser than me on here) and clean ALL the crud and mud from under the van (especially under the arches etc), I think my van was parked next to Hippo for most of its life as there was mud on mud... on rust - hiding many a nasty surprise. I've got way too stressed and said "its one thing or another" way too many times in our short life as owners of a T25, but despite the blood, sweat, tears and piles of dosh... I wouldnt change it for the world!
Sometimes its hard work, but well worth it! Enjoy it.

Hi mate,
I put wd40 on the nuts and let them soak over night ! I then heated the nuts with a gas can then put a breaker bar inside a 3/4 ft scafolding pole and gently nudged it go back and forth. It can make a horrible sound but it works , remember not to put too much pressure on the breaker bar as it can snap at the socket end !
You can get the breaker bar and socket from just kampers, its worth it because you will use it in the future !! Shame your not closer I could of given you a hand dude !

Personally, unless abs. desperate I wouldn't heat the nut, unless i was changing all the seals and bearings and had a new hub castle nut
Can send you one if required...
It's mainly down to locking the wheel from moving at all - if it jumps around you aren't putting all the impact into the nut torque.

Cheers for the offer anyway Nindy, another pair of hands would have been great, I've soaked the nuts in penetrating oil tonight but i cant see it doing much good, as for the breaker bar, i spent £30.00 on one today and it's bent already! i just hope it lasts until the job is done?
Short bloke what van have you got, is it a standard panel van or camper? i think mine is gonna be a labour of love, i've discovered a few issues with bubbling under the paint work which will need addressing very soon, one lower seam has been filled which worries me but apart from that it all looks pretty original and solid, but i'll be very suprised if thats the full extent of it. But for now i'll just take it one step at a time and concentrate on the rear brakes. i'll be a happy man one i have these nuts craked!

as for the breaker bar, i spent £30.00 on one today and it's bent already!
Forget expensive breaker bars, if you go that route (socket & pudlok) then use a proper T-bar (3/4" sq.) which is built to take a lot more stress than a powerbar. GSF used to do 3/4 T-bars for about £15, prob. still do

I have a blue bus! (pefect for me!

Im a very keen novice when it comes to cars / campers, I LOVE getting me hands dirt, but have learnt a hell of a lot along the way, the only way to learn (for me!) is to get stuck in, a Haynes Manual and sites like this great one essential to me! Id have a go at most bits on my van if it seems to be within my capabilities. Lots of rust on our van that had been patched up before, hence we decide to give it a new all over paint job, while rubbing/cutting out and treating each bit of rust we found, only done one lick of paint so far as turned attentions back to getting it back on the road.. and its been a very long road so far!!
Defo worth giving the hub nut remover tool a go as I didnt, and the as said before all the weight, banging, WD40 and scafold poles in the world didnt shift my nuts!
Where abouts do you live and What part of Croydon is your van in at the mo?

I live in Balham but the van is on a mates drive in Selsdon, and i'm staying here till it's repaired. Actually purchased the van off him but i'm doing what i can here as he has the room.
