Split Charge/Battery Monitoring

Post by CovKid »

Added a video to You Tube whick shows my LED split charge meter installed and how it works. Strictly speaking this should be in modifications forum but theres been a lot of threads in technical lately on split charging and this gives you an easy-to-see battery monitoring facility that is under a tenner in parts. Its on the WIKI. Cowling, being plastic is easy to cut to accommodate the guage.

Would also work on small boats or caravans.

Essentially negative for meter is chassis earth, switch to right just provides a live from leisure or a live from cranking (if that makes sense). That cowling is a big waste of space really and the meter breaks it up nicely without being an extra distraction if it were mounted higher up on the dash. Peace of mind. :D

Meters are readily available on Ebay. Bought this one from 'Asian Trader' I think. tho floods may have changed all that. The one I bought reads up to 20volts. He has a series of them right up to 500v. To get the backlight to run off dash lights you have to cut the wires to backlight and wire directly, using a resistor or alternatively mount a separate one in the display.

These meters are useful and ridiculously cheap - could be added to a zig unit I guess, or anywhere you want a voltage readout. They do 240v versions too.
