Fridge Not working and bodywork

Hi out there.
Having never had any problems with my fridge the 12volt system just never worked at all on our holiday this week. On touring it didn't cool and when on site it still didn't cool the fridge.
I tested it on the gas and it worked fine using that, but haven't had a chance to check out on mains yet.
I would really appreciate some help or the name of someone near Brighton who could look at it for me.
I also need someone in this area to take a look at the increasing rust damage to my van so, again, any advice/recommendations would be great.

12v wouldnt cool on site as its isolated when the motor stops to prevent you from killing your battery in about an hour!!

on site use mains or gas

Thanks for getting back to me. I do put the fridge to gas on site, my problem is that we drove for 8 hours through France with the 3 way set to 12v battery - Zig to "Touring" and there was no drop in temp at all. Tested it on gas on arrival - that was fine and cooled very quickly, so it seems to be a 12v issue.
Looking at other forums there seems to be talk of in-line fuses but where would I find that in my 1989 Komet?

The 12v fridge wiring is independant and doesn't go via the Zig unit. The fuse and relay are in the cupboard to the left of the fridge at the bottom. You need to remove the shelf for access and then you will see this


It looks like the centre will just slide out but it's VERY stiff so its simpler to remove one sides screws. Then you'll see something like this. (You won't see the thick red cable - I put that in)


Ignore the blade fuse - that's for the propex heater. The red fridge relay is fed from one of the in-line cartridge fuse holders on the left.

Yes it should be fused. Normally it is very close to the battery but somtimes wired in to the fuse box near the passenger seat

Hi Crumbly

There a really helpful old VW garage by the Engineer Pub, it's on Campbell Road doesn't have a name outside, just a set of double doors. They may not be able to help specifically with the fridge but could put you in touch with someone who could I'm sure. At the end of this road, over the the dead end is another VW garage but this one just does bodywork, again really helpful and will look at the van and give you advice etc. I'm sure the numbers are around here somewhere on a post by me, but it's easier to simply go down and chat to them.
