what do they do?

At the bottom of a gearstick where it becomes an H shaped fork ( just in front of where the front linkage is bolted to the gearstick). there are nylon pads on the inside and outside of the fork legs. what is their function?

I believe they're there to guide the gear change and also stop the leaver wobbling when it's in gear, haven't got any on mine, they wore out and fell off!!! ..... there's a thread somewhere on here where they made replacements.

Cheers for the info. Mine are half worn and one has a corner missing. Anybody reading this know if they can be replaced? Can't find it on wiki.

I think the simple answer is no they can't be replaced on there own, I'm sure when I ask VW about these last year, when I overhauled my gear change, he said they come as part of either the selector shaft or gear lever depending on what setup you had. Might be worth checking again just in case he was wrong.

Have a read of this lot......... https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/Ma ... l_specific" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Looks as if 'Harry Mann' one of our moderators did the article so maybe he could help with tufnol suppliers....or just Google for a source.
