Seat reupholstery or replacement ???

My recently bought 1987 T25 has a badly worn drivers seat. I have found on here that saab 9000 seats will fit with a bit of modification here and there but a bit beyond my engineering ability. I also managed to find on here that caravelle seats will bolt straight in but they seem to be as rare as a rust free T25 or mega expensive.
Can anyone advise if there are any other seats that will fit with some minor modification or would I be better off finding a good upholsterer?

Escort seats are approximately the same width where they mount, and T25 runners will bolt straight on BUT a bit of creative enginnering is needed to make the seat adjustment work as it should ..

I can also recommend Mark at Megavanmats. He is also getting my rock and roll recovered and new foam fitted. As hercules says he is very helpful so it's worth giving him a ring for advice should you want to get your recovered

Had a look at the mega mat site, looks very good value, I will ask him for a quote and get some of his mats as well.

Had a look at the Saab seat fitting guide, prob a bit beyond my mechanical crap capabilities. There is a nice pair of saab 9000 seats on ebay at the moment but I will pass.

T4 seats will fit with very minor mods to their tracks.

My suggestion is you have a look at and try sitting in other van owners upgrades. Go along to a meet and have a chat. Those T4 seats look the biz though, don't they.

We've tried all kinds of aftermarkets seats in our T25. Saab (favourite), F0rd Recaro, Granadas. People carrier all singing and dancing ones too. There's always a compromise to be made. Maybe the biggest is seat height when fitted to swivel bases. This might raise an aftermarket pair of seats by two or three inches. And if your partner is taller than 5ft 8inches, as my girlfriend is, then they'll either have to lean to centre of windscreen to get a proper view inside of wiper sweep area or excessively recline seat to see under top of passenger door window frame . So, for us, it's either back to the old set (preferred) or get a bank loan for captain chairs with arm rests.

Many owners just slide out standard seats. Drill out spot welds from old base rails on battery boxes. Then weld or bolt two strong flat iron cross braces and bolt aftermarket jobbies to that. Be careful if drilling holes in box base. beneath there's the plastic overflow fuel bottles in wheel arches to consider.

Not particularly difficult. But needs " there's no turning back now" spunkiness, if you'll excuse the expression. And some basic necessary tools. Drill with various quality bits, file, angle grinder etc at least.

I've looked at some Fiat X1/9 seats recently and they look ideal. Nice and low with long swab to support under thigh area. And very comfy too. Plus there's plenty of scrappers around to supply donor seats.

Mine are being recovered at the moment in brown and cream faux leather. should get them back tomorrow.

does anyone know a decent upholstery service in the south hants area?
