cv joints

Post by Ray »

just had my rear cv joints replaced, were knocking when hot after a long run. the vibration that I was experiencing has gone and I was thinking it was prop shaft related, just a mild prop ringing now. Obviously the vibrations can come from anywhere in the drive chain. Perhaps a new prop bush would fix the ringing now?

backlash in the gearbox and front diff and prop all combine to give knock that gives ring........and if the front output bearing is worn....or the spigot bearing in the front diff input shaft.......still can't get the bushes from SA so only alternative is a prop refurber who can obtain and fit the bronze bush

VW designed in the prop ringing, so even with a perfect unworn bush 2WD's can hear Syncros coming around the mountain.....

What 2WD's are doing up the mountain in the first place I never have discovered, but that's my theory and I'm sticking to it :)
