no its the ones on the bottoms where the breather hose pushed into the plastic expansion tank? i have had a look on vagcat and mine seems to be a bit different. Are the tanks supposed to have a built in nipple  which the pipe slips over?

yep
there is a little nipple for the pipe to slip over, can be a bugger to get on
chew the pipe or put in warm water first
