Elite engines

Post by ozzy »

Just booked my bus in with Elite for this Friday i was thinking of having the engine thats in the van re-conned instead of one off the shelf.
It did cross my mnd to upgrade to a 2.1 but i have a 4 speed box.
Would i need a 5 speed box if i stuck the bigger engine in?

I put a 2.1 in mine with a 4 speed box, no difference in gearing.

4th in a 4 speed and 5th in a 5speed are almost the same ratio anyway.

As Mr Aidan 'Beaker' will tell you a proper 2.1 5 speed gearbox has a 4 pinion diff. , although the 1.9 5 speed will fit and work .... perhaps not for quite as long ?

If the box is in good nick and the oil been changed then no need to worry.. it onlt becomes a factor if you drive the wheels off it all the time and IIRC there doesnt seem to be rhym or reason that some have 2 pinion or 4 pinion and some dont..

4 speed is considered a stronger box in any case... and the ratios (in top) are generally not much different..
