Headlight_warning_buzzer mod, relay not working?

Post by ToolkiT73 »

In order to avoid a flat battery I followed instructions from https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/VW ... ing_buzzer" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So I bought the relay on ebay:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volkswagen-VW ... 2570157424" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Now I plugged it in slot 7 but nothing seems to happen when I turn on the lights..
Am I right in assuming the relay is faulty? the seller claims he checked it before he send it..

Assuming you have the 99 relay fitted and the late fuses.It sounds like a faulty relay.

Ah, I've got the 19 wiper relay so that is probably the issue.. let me source the 99 one and try again..

ok, got the 99 relay for the wipers.. and it kinda_but_not_really works...
When the wiper is on, the buzzer works, when the wiper is off it does not...
Faulty relays? wrong wiring? any thoughts?

Personally I would wire it as on the original vehicle the relay came from. This requires a two-pin drivers door switch, and a VW relay base to mount the 292 relay to the top of the relay plate. Then, wire the relay as follows:

Pin 2 - door switch (to earth when door opened)
Pin 4 - sidelight left (grey/black)
Pin 6 - sidelight right (grey/red)
Pin 8 - ignition (black)

If the drivers door is opened, with ignition off and lights on (eg. both sidelights), the buzzer will sound. However if either L or R sidelight is deliberately left on (using the stalk as parking postion marker), the buzzer will not sound.
Syncrosport (taking a break as of summer 2024)
Volkswagen Transporter, reloaded.

I just fitted an LED to dash that comes on when lights are on. Not missed it so far.

You're not alone...

I don't really want to follow syncroandy's suggestion though, cos the weather here is so sh!te that I only open the door when I'm fully committed to running to the house!

Joking aside, if it works for some, why not all? I've yet to sit down and work this out, but I have got a golf Haynes from the library to help me out (fingers crossed). I'll let you know how I get on...
