So, what are the symptoms of this component failing? How do they manifest themselves?
My van just stopped about a week ago, no previous running problems at all. Is it always so immediate or can they throw up intermittent problems as they begin to fail? Just curious to be honest as I plan to buy a spare to keep on board in future.

Ignition amp failure
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

From what I remember Mitch the van will just turn over and not start. I had a spare swapped it over and it was fine. I'm sure I've got it in the van somewhere and can post it out if you want to try it?

Thanks for the offer but Paul had a spare that I begged! My initial query was meant to ask if there are other manifestations of a 'problematic' amp or do they just all fail and that's it.

Re: Ignition amp failure
Hi
When mine failed (2.0 CU), I would just be driving along and it would suddenly die, randomly to begin with. After five minutes it would restart.
Eventually I could only travel a mile and it would cut out and then take longer before restart.

Did you chase other areas before you stumbled upon what was actually wrong?

I can 2nd that, this is exactly how the problem manifested itself with my 2.0 CU.
