what wires go to starter

Post by Alex56 »

Hi
Can I please check what wires go to the starter? I'm piecing a project back together - I didnt take it apart! Its a WBX 2.1 injected 1989 model.

I can see a trigger wire which clips on to a small terminal, and a thick red wire with a big sort of copper ring on the end, this fits on the stud at the back.

I can't see any other wires which might reach, but looking at the Haynes manual electric diagram I think there should be another wire to go on the stud.

Should there be another? Thanks if you can help.

Should be a thick one from battery to stud and another from engine bay - fixed to same stud. One from engine bay will either come from black box at back of engine or direct from alternator - depending how its wired. Below should help.

One of the advantages of the WIKI is it tends to cover jobs that are more age-related compared to Haynes and other manuals which concentrate on common servicing jobs. Some WIKI articles also describe sensible upgrades as well as things that can be circumvented altogether, something you don't tend to get in a manual which can have you dismantling things that don't need to be. :D
