Intermittent Wiper-upgrade problem

Post by JackE »

Hi,

I sort of followed these instruction to try and upgrade to intermittent wiper
https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/VW ... ent_wipers

and removed the following two parts, the brass from the fuse box and the brown plastic thing from the steering column. On a more careful read of the instruction I can see it is meant to be a white wedge the thing I took out doesn't look like a wedge and is brown! (What have I done wrong). The wipers work on the two speed settings slow and fast, but the windscreen washers don't work. No fuses have blown. Any help would be great many thanks.

Mmm - not quite sure what you've removed there!
Does your wiper stalk have a new extra 'down' position now or is it still just Off, slow, fast?

I just did the same mod and it was def a small white piece that I removed .... as per the Wiki.
Can you put the thing back that you removed ???

Thanks for the replies I should have put the year in my signature I will do that now it is 1988

I have now replace the brown bit of plastic and have wipers and washers work as before, slow fast and wash. The brown bit seems to stop two contacts touching see photo it is attached the switch arm and, I couldn't see any white plastic.

White bit is on the other side of the steering column (the side you can't see from this picture)
