3 point seat belt advice please.

Post by LittleMissSunshine »

Hi everyone. Baby is due in 4 weeks and as I can just see over my bump to the tablet I thought I'd ask about rear 3 point seat belt fitting.

We have 2 lap belts in the back of our Komet and I need to upgrade one to a three point to secure the car seat. I want to use the van for days out as soon as we can to prevent it suffering from lack of use in the autumn.

I was just wondering if one side is easier than the other (does the wardrobe get in way?) ? Also, can anyone recommend anywhere between Teesside and north, North Yorkshire to fit them?

Finally, how much does this normally cost? Will ring Dubwerks but know many of you have changed the seat belts on your vans.

Thanks for reading, hope you can advise.

I went through this and there's three things you can do...

1. fit one yourself to the non-wardrobe side - I dint his, was pretty easy but mines a Westfalia so is based on the van model that has the mounting point already there - not sure all vans will

2. I then got these people http://www.seatbeltservice.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to fit one for the other side ... theyre based in London so not that handy! They do do a mobile service though so we took advantage of that when my wife had to go to London for a meeting (we're not London local either)

3. You can get a car seat called the Britax Eclipse Si (i think thats what its called) that says it can be used with a lap belt - we just sold ours i'm afraid! I think its a 'from birth' car seat, I'm sure we used it till our little one outgrew it hence the extra 3 point being added. Not sure they still do them so look on ebay (and double check in the instructions you can use it with a lap belt)

I used Seat Belt Services when I had my Karmann Gypsy, the service and quality is really good. I've emailed them to ask for a quote for 2 x inertia reel rear seat belts for my T25.

I paid £220 for the Karmann but the extra was due to the extra metalwork required to anchor to the chassis.
