Guys i currently have a 2E fitted into my Whitestar, was after some advice on tuning the engine vs a engine swap.. A logical route would be to swap the Cylnder Head port/polished if budget allows bigger valves with a slight high lift cam (nothing too mental) Newmans 268.. Cant find much info on this for a t25 plenty of advice for a Golf
Also look at gearbox ratio as gap between 3rd to 4th seems to long!!
Or swap for a 1.8t but this route seems to be the expensive route?

Hi Gaz, is the 2e an 8 valve gti type engine?
If it is I've got a hardly used piper 270 cam and set of hydraulic lifters (done about 500 miles) that you could buy at handy money. The cam was a new one not a regrind. P.M. me if interested.
1982 was 2ltr a/c then 1.9d 5spd, now 1.9tdi with passat box. Reimo pop top.
It was fitted in a mk2 scirocco so slightly different power to weight characteristics. It gave good all round improvements, not a peaky cam so should be good for your purpose.

Elvis is right.
I was single and lonely before I fitted the cam but once installed and correctly timed I was beating women off with a s***ty stick. It also improved the engine.

Yes that's an accurate assessment. If only geeky teenage boys knew about the Piper/Newman effect, they wouldn't waste so much of their spare money on Lynx, they would have a faster Saxo and a string of attractive, horny girls to pander to their every whim.

I spent quite some time researching it and all the options. You COULD do the cylinder head but for what? You want low/mid range torque not big BHP (although yes there is a correlation) so dont bother with big valaves IMHO, You could spend £500 on a QUALITY head job *snigger* but its the old law of diminishing returns. Secondhand cam is £100. A £500 head wont give 5 times the increase in performance/power/bhp/torque/smiles. A £100 head job will probably see you with a knackered head.
Bung in a cam around 270/272 and you'll be grinning like the proverbial jap.
Have a nosey on clubgti.com in the 8v section, plenty of knowledgeable bods and plenty of threads/facts/figues
Elvis,
from your experience with the 270 cam, does it deliver the extra power in a way that can be beneficial on fuel consumption? That is, driven sensibly/gently, could one expect see a few more miles per gallon?
The Hydraulic mk2 cam will fit all Mk2/3s PB/2E/AGG. Think only difference is later ones(head) obviously had extra cam cap.
Was talking about this today funnily enough and i still maintain IMHO that is one of the best £/bang upgrades i have ever done. DEFFO does what it says on the box and bags more torque low/mid.Just stay sensible - around 270 , can spend ages comparing them all for what has best lift , IIRC the Newman ones are alledgedly Schrick copies which is meant to be one of the best profiles about.
I cant' honestly say that i did a before/after MPG comparison but i dont think it had any noticeable effect, possibly for first few weeks like any mod, you will be spanking it a little bit with a cheeky grin BUT even if there was a decrease (1) It would be marginal (2) the benefits gained (especially in a syncro) would IMHo far outweigh the rise in consumption.

If only this was the brickyard...I could re phrase that statement for you in such a sordid manner...shame...
