Diesel Rev Counter vs Petrol Rev Counter

Post by Jeremy »

All,

I think a previous owner of my 2.1l petrol syncro caravelle has replaced the dashboard with one from a diesel vehicle, as there is a lamp for glow plug coils and the rev counter simply bounces around idiotically. On the back of the rev counter there is a sticker with lots of numbers on it - I wonder if it means anything to one of you:

333.230/144/030
12 V / 1651 HZ
1:2.2751/6 Pol.
Made in Germany

I think a petrol one should read "12V / 200HZ" and I think that's the issue. Has anyone changed this freqency (is it a change of crystal perhaps?) or am I best trying to source another rev counter from a petrol van?

Thanks for your insights in advance,

Jeremy.

What a fabulous answer - thank you! Proves mine is a diesel set. Not sure I want to spend £125 on a new one though, unless a diesel one would cost the same?!

Diesel rev counters are rocking horse pooh compared to petrol which are merely very rare
put it on swaps as a straight swap
