New T25 owner! Seeking info from those in the know!

Post by gregwiththegrin »

Hi fellow camper owners!

Ive just purchased my first Camper, (1.9 T25, water cooled DG Engine, 1986) picked her up 2 days ago and already fallen in love!

Im due to set sail for Europe next Monday with my dog 'Journey'... neither of us currently have any knowledge of mechanics... looking forward to a steep learning curve!

Heres where im seeking some help please... Im trying to get the bus working nice b4 Journey and I begin our European tour.

My van is currently leaking oil and I have ordered new push rod tubes / seals to hopefully rectify this issue, ive also ordered a new rotor arm as the current one has a limiter which may be why shes running a bit lumpy at higher speeds? The final thing I have been recommended to purchase is a new oil pressure switch, however, and this is where i need some forum knowledge!

Apparently the oil pressure switches are colour coded and i need to order the correct colour, ive googled the image of what one is supposed to look like but ive spent an hour under the van searching but i'll be jiggered if i can find it!!

Can anyone give me any pointers as to either where to locate it, or better still, what colour it will be for my type of T25?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Thankyou.. Greg

Thanks James, will begin my education with the wiki read!

As for setting off with zero knowledge, not so sure whether its brave or a bit mental! Still as the saying goes... if you're not living life on the edge, your taking up too much room!

I have been an owner for just over a month and am setting off to Gibraltar next month.

I have all sort of leak issues while in perpetration (http://theadventuresofgloria.wordpress. ... sofgloria/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

We'll be fine! If we wanted safe then we would take a Mondeo ;-)

Can't help with the oil pressure switch, but I can make a suggestion for those bound for Europe with untried vans.

Print out a copy of the relevant section of the "Members Help List" that you'll find in the members only section of the forum.

That way if it does go bang, at the very least you should be able to call someone who knows VWs and speaks the language, they might even be near enough to lend a hand/workshop/rebuild your engine.

You could add an aftermarket gauge - and then at least you dont have to rely on the flaky VW dynamic oil pressure warning system.

Hi Greg.
Go for it. Nothing ventured etc.... We are going to the south of France in a couple of weeks and thought about taking spares and decided that the south of France is not Outer Mongolia and if we require anything we should be able to get them localy. Besides, what is the betting that if you carry lots of parts that you won't have the part you actualy need. These vans are built to be used all over the world and going into the unknown is part of the adventure.
Have fun, Kenny.
I don't know where I am, but I'm having a lovely time!
