would exhaust be compatable
I have a T25 1.9cc 1984 VW camper. Watercooled that needs a new exhaust. I have been offered an brilliant exhaust at a great price but it is off a 1983 volkswagen T25 Air-cooled 1970cc Camper Van 1970cc. Does anyone know if the exhaust i've been offered would be compatable. Mine seems to have two manifolds & the one offered seems to only have one. Could the van or the exhaust be converted to fit or is it a no go.
Re: would exhaust be compatable

If you still have the original exhaust system 1984 DG's had the same box as the 2ltr Aircooled. Best put some pics up it may be the new box has different type of fitting but compatible.

Re: would exhaust be compatable
It depends on what exhaust system you already have.
This is Aircooled but uses the same silencer as early DG's. If your silencer looks similar to this then it will fit, although aftermarket exhausts can be a bit tight in the space available.

If you have the later DG system like this then it won't fit.

This is the exhaust which fits my van that I could buy off Just Kampers. What do you think? Is the one I've been offered a possible fit or for someone without much mechanical knowledge would converting the one I've been offered be a pipe dream. As it is a much superior exhaust.
I have attached a pic of the exhaust currently on my van
Thanks for all your help.

Then yes it will fit fella. The only thing I will say is that performance or not, the can will rot out in no time. Top of the range it is not. Lots on here about the short-lived nature of those bean cans. However, take a look at my WIKI on this very subject as it applies to you:

and:

Biggest problem you may have is getting the old one off. You won't actually get any performance increase with the swap but you do at least then have a header on to which you can bolt more interesting and more readily available cans that may well improve performance.
Have fun experimenting!

The justkrappers systems is £329 for chinese cheese and will last 2-5 years if you are really really lucky
VWspeedshop sell a fully stainless system that fits both early and late van for £435

£100 more but it will last longer than the van. I think Fairwynds has one if you want to ask him about it.

Re: would exhaust be compatable
I think you're off on a tangent there Cruz. He only wants to know if that one will fit, not how much is a complete stainless system

Tangent? He says he needs a new system and that's one of the options

Re: would exhaust be compatable
Sorry Cruz, don't misunderstand me. I'm not having a go. I just can't see where he asked that question. The one he's been offered only replaces the silencer box on its own (the header being part of that) which quite a few people opt for on an early exhaust system. It just bolts on where the old silencer did and often buys a few years if the rest of the pipework is ok.

Re: would exhaust be compatable
From the look of your photos the bit's you've been offered only replace the actual silencer, instead of bolting directly onto the 'j tubes' as the original does the 'curly bit' bolts on first and then the silencer.
You may also find that you have trouble with it fouling the valance, how many parts have you been offered because it looks like you will still need the other four bits.
