PEARLS OF WISDOM......

Post by Gone-Westy »

Have just bought first campervan and as a total novice would appreciate one or two words of wisdom from experienced pros about campervanning with 2 small kids!!!!

what to do/not to do etc.

How to avoid "schoolboy errors".

Ta!

do a head count before you leave home...and before you leave the site!

always do one thing at a time in the van and tidy up before starting another.

don't park on mud

take lots of "things to do" ..as a family.

don't plan anything till you get there.

leave the telly at home.

take some extra blankets...and extra clothes

an umberella

first aid kit

fire extinguisher

wine ...beer...and more wine

a tasty meal.

lots of tea

your on holiday relax

find a site / sleepystop / place that looks interesting to children. (farm, seaside, forest.

take the bikes

more beer

more wine

Get an awning - the extra space will save your sanity and your van's interior.

Get Green Flag/AA/RAC

Take a radio - rediscovering radio can be fun.

Walkie talkies to call them back for meals and to check in.

Go to a show or local meet - good way to see what others take and use, also you will make some good friends and so will your kids.

Welcome - Paul.

Hi welcome,

I only bought mine in July. I'm amazed how much I've learnt in a short space of time.

hook up your 240v electric the night before you leave so your fridge is cool before you leave. Your fridge on 12v takes about 2 hours to start working.

do remember to turn the gas off before moving off

cheers

Also, make sure you remember to unplug the electric hookup before driving off. Not that I've ever done that, oh no...

Buy a large awning as a smaller one just becomes a storeroom, take some ready made meals for the first night as everyone will be tired! Connect the hookup the night before and turn on the fridge, We found our tomtom a must! When we arrive where ever we are going we record that point so we can go out exploring and never get lost!
