Radio replacement
Just bought a t3, and the radio is always getting power even when the key is out. Is that normal for t3s or just shoddy wiring? Will it mess anything up to add a kill switch assuming I don’t want to rewire all the way to the ignition? It’s also the same for the cigarette lighter.

Re: Radio replacement
Hi
Welcome to the crazy world of the T3!
Has your van got a leisure battery? If so you will find that the previous owner has rewired not only the radio and cigarette lighter socket but also the interior lights to the leisure battery so that when camped up you can listen to the radio, have the lights on and charge your phone, without draining the starter battery.
Cheers

Re: Radio replacement
From memory - original T3 radio looms did not have an ignition live feed.
I suspect, unless updated to an ISO format, your radio plug will only have..
Red - Battery Live
Brown - Chassis Ground.
Grey-Blue - Illumination
And then either two or four speaker wires.
Depending on the model year of your van, it is moderately easy to add an ignition live feed from the fuse box.
(Black wire).
Easier to ask if you have an early or late van...
Early is upto about 1985ish (euro torpedo fuses)
Later is from about 1986 onward.(Flat blade fuses).
In the old days we used to say 'put your van model year and engine code in your signature to help us to give more accurate advice'

1983 Tin Top with a poorly DF and 4 speed DT box.
1987 Electrics and a DJ engine.
Maybe one day I might get it finished
