PAS, different uprights?

Post by what2do »

Is it essential to have the uprights that go with PAS or is there a mod that can be done to the standard ones? Thanks.

I know I'm burying my head in the sand (again) but is it possible to drive (safely) with std uprights and a pas rack? One day I would like to have an oem pas system, the sooner the better as my other half is not accustomed to anything requiring more than 2 fingers to steer a vehicle...

I remember Neil Hakuna matata saying he didn't like the way his van steered using the standard uprights. Not sure how safe or unsafe it might be.

I stripped the pas from a scrapper 3 years ago and fitted it to my bus. I did not change the uprights, I could not see a difference and I have only admiration for the way the bus has handled since doing the conversion. So why not fit the rest of the system without the uprights and see what you think. I know there are doomsayers on here that will say I am wrong but that is their prerogative.

I am willing to give it a go but only if the feedback was along the lines of 'are you mad, you'll kill yourself'. It's not an imminent project but it doesn't harm to start collecting parts. I've always fancied oem pas and appreciate that it's going to cost but for better or worse my van is a keeper and justifies the expenditure. Thanks for the input. :ok

I can definitely inform you that oem transforms the handling of the vehicle and makes driving it an even bigger pleasure. :ok
