Decent exhaust for CU?

Big lumps of metals and spanners. Including servicing and fluids.

Decent exhaust for CU?

Post by djaychela »

I've got an '82 Devon with a 2.0 air cooled CU engine in it. The heat exchangers are in decent nick, but the tailpipe is not. From what I can tell, it's an EMPI one, like this:

http://www.justkampers.com/review/produ ... egory/226/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And while I'm actually generally happy with it (looks and sound), it's rotten and on its way out. All the research I've done says that EMPI stuff is crap, and I'd be wasting my money - it's £105 for that.

The alternative seems to be a Stainless system, such as one of these:

http://www.justkampers.com/review/produ ... /id/19445/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

or what looks very similar (if not the same?) from VW Heritage:

https://www.vwheritage.com/shop/type25- ... 1700-2000/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

with the accompanying silencer.

Clearly that's nearly 3x the money... My question is, does anyone have any experience of the stainless systems? Seems to be few reviews of them, whereas there's loads of EMPI-negative ones (which I guess is to be expected as generally people are more likely to review at all if it's a negative thing?). I'm planning on keeping the camper for a good few years, so not afraid to spend the money if it's worth it, but don't want to triple the outlay if it's going to rot inside (I've seen some with stainless outsides and then steel baffles!)

Hard to beat stainless. The only other alternative is: https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/Exhausts_Custom" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Roller paint your camper at home: http://roller.epizy.com/55554/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for MP4 download.
