Topic = "Good tips on soldering irons" - I like a good tip on a soldering iron
I hate bad tips on soldering irons, where the solder won't flow across it, just blobs up  Keeping them clean, wiping with that special bit of damp sponge you can get for the soldering iron stand and replacing them when the coating starts to wear. These are all good tips for tips on soldering irons 8)

25W Weller "Solder station" for me. Temperature control, lots of different types of tips which can be swapped in seconds, nice well made stand, had it for about 25 years and used it professionally and daily for much of that time. It's still going strong (though it's had a new element and a new cable in that time).

I also have an micro soldering iron for the really delicate stuff, and a felt tip pen sized gas blow torch for car battery wires etc ;)
Got a new van, but it's a 165bhp T4 [shock horror] Accurate LPG Station map here

When working on staine gauge soldering the company banned the use of damp sponges as it dropped the temp of the iron tip, they changed to somthing like these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/13168360 ... noapp=true" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; have you tried one I find it much better now.

I bought a Antex cs25 ( 25w) iron from my wholesaler ( Pama) back in 1997 and it's been used pretty much constantly since , commercially for 4 years and only had three new tips as far as I can remember .... It wasn't expensive and I used it again today .....

Also bought a Antex Gascat Gas soldering iron about the same time, it didn't make it to the end of the warrentry nor did its replacement , leaky unreliable things!

I used to buy those from Pama's (and the 15W ones) to sell in my electronics shop.
Pama's were one of my main suppliers for all things CB radio related etc.

Aye, and Electrovision, N. Liverpool iirc. They had a good catalogue, lots of decent replacement speakers, audio leads, PA amps, lighting, and test meters etc etc, oh and soldering stuff too ;)

Wasn't Bitrix used in that stuff used to stop people chewing their nails?
