Split Charge on Subaru Conversion
Hi there
I am looking for some guidance on fitting a split charge set up on my Subaru powered van.
Nothing major, just for powering the stereo and a couple of LED lights in the back
Any help appreciated

Re: Split Charge on Subaru Conversion
The simplest approach. Works on any vehicle:

Re: Split Charge on Subaru Conversion
Thanks for that but I understand there is often an issue with the Subaru Alternator being more sensitive an therefore the charge light stays on.
I was thinking using Voltage Sensitive Split Charge Relay instead which does not need the feed to the charge LED from the alternator VW blue wire

Nothing wrong with that - bit more expensive but easier to wire in.

Re: Split Charge on Subaru Conversion
I used a voltage sensitive relay as I blew my first alternator hooking up to the original relay using the blue wire.

i think you will find the subaru alternator is no more "sensitive" than any other, it just wasnt designed to work with the vw alternator light , and what is maybe more sensitive will be the ecu
you wouldnt affect anything if you took your trigger connection from the alternator .
voltage sensing split charge maybe isnt a good idea if you are considering a solar panel in the future , or have one now

Thats why I've hung in there with me trusty 80 amp regular relay Steve. Its worked for last six years anyway. Got it for the horrendous sum of a pound at a boot sale - Bosch at that,

Arr the good Old Trowel and Hammer! I know it well!
What did you do about your exhaust on your conversion, I am looking ISC Racing near Ipswich. Have you heard anything about them?
