The Engine Shop v The VW Engine Company

Hi Everyone,

After very nearly getting our camper back on the road I seem to have run into another problem. Quite a big one really- I need a new engine.
Looking at my options, I think the best answer for me is to do an engine swap and get a reconditioned one from either The Engine shop, or the VW Engine Company. They both seem to offer nigh on identical products, so I was hoping someone might be able to guide me as to whom I'm better off going with. Has anyone had any experience of these two companies?
I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts.

You will find that feedback from these so called engine suppliers will be very mixed. They tend to re use components that are within tolerance , not using new parts . Ive been looking into this myself and gave decided to go another route.
It will be very hit and miss as to whether you get a decent engine.

there are lots of mentions on here about these two companies,have a look and you will find varied opinions,research well before making a decision it may bite you in the a*** otherwise

Many thanks for your replies.....I had no idea it was so hit and miss.
The engine I am replacing is the Aircooled 2.0 CU with twin solex.
Hmmm not sure what to do now...

I rebuild type 4 engines..

ok....you haven't said what the issue is with yours....look up sarran on you tube - he is an air cooled god lol

only my opinion based on my personal experience.. but i cannot express enough, stay well away from the engine shop!! but if you do go there punch him square on the nose for me!! He cost me a lot of money and hassle!

When i stripped my engine (2.1 dj built to 2.2 bigbore) it was plain to see why it didn't last 5000 miles. I subsequently re built it my self and it has been great since..

Like i say only my personal experience but the best thing i can say is choose your builder and how you want your engine built spec wise very very carefully! Its about quality workmanship of course but after sales service is very important also. With that joker, once you give your money its all over!
