Since having a TDI fitted my temp gage when the ignition is switched on does a full sweep of the range and when started goes back to to zero... I thought it was because there was now no sender so I fitted an oil temp sender into the oil filter housing .... What should this connect to ????

A good while when the van was 2.1 DJ .. I fitted a VDO volt meter .. Oil pressure and water temp gauge ..

Re: Auxiliary temp gauge issues
Do you mean an oil temp gauge as in the Audi 80 set of three aux gauges? If so I have a circuit diagram somewhere I could dig out.

Re: Auxiliary temp gauge issues
On reflection sounds like it's connected to a normally closed oil pressure switch - ie connected in parallel with the oil pressure warning light.

Re: Auxiliary temp gauge issues
Thanks for your input .... It was a water temp gauge but I thought I'd use it as an oil temp now .... In my minds eye I thought that the reason it did a scale sweep to max was due the the fact that there was no sender .... But obviously not now ... Hmmmm
