Buzzer of doom is the buzzer that goes off if your oil pressure is low and the engine rpm is above 2000rpm.

Just out of interest does your turn signal indicator light work on the dash?
Does your highbeam indicator light work on the dash?

Re: Rear fog lights and red flashing light of doom
Hi midlife crisis
Ok at one point I had indicator signal lights, glow plug light, and handbrake light. The high beam light in dash would only work when head lights were switched on as would the battery light. On top of this I have the temp red flashing light going continually. It was suggested it was a bad earth/ground that could cause these issues but I am happy the earths are ok I had cleaned the crowns and connecting earth tabs.
Also no fog lights, head lights work fine I metered the fog light connection no power on any of the three wires. Though the conductivity was ok on all three.
I have wiring diagrams but having problem following them as they do not give wire colours?
So state of ya now is that I have parking brake light, and no other panel lights at all except high beam indicator light now works with headlights off? What did I do lol
Hazards and indicators all work except no panel light indication,
I will post pictures this evening.
And no I do not have rev counter.

I not sure why you think I am going to run a new earth from rear lights to front of van??
Unless you mixed up what was said about the flashing red light of doom temp gauge see my original post
It was suggested I check the 14 pin dash panel earth/ground which I originally thought on my van came was connected to body work under the dash, I was wrong it is connected to the crowns on passenger side by fuse box.
This is the one I had in mind to replace but have not because it's a good earth connection I checked the 14 pin connector and all seems good all contacts are good so where now ???

You asked earlier where the rear got the earth from.
"But no power reading, where would the ground to the fog lights come from, I clean all earth crowns and connectors behind dash boardby fuse box drivers side, RHD model."

Re: Rear fog lights and red flashing light of doom
Hello all
Appologies for not replying to last post July but work and family commitments got the better of me, ok
So an update on where I got to so far,
No where, I've have ended up with no ignition lights, no oil light, battery light, no glow plug light, no red temp flashing light then off, no high beam light, No green indicator lights, though indicators working. headlights and panel lights work, no fuel or temp gauge. And no Rear Fog lights. I can get some instrument lights like glow plug and high beam if I switch the headlights on???
I have cleaned all ground connections front and rear, checked dash panel pcb for conductivity all appears good, I have tested the live and ground on 14 pin dash panel connector and getting 12v reading. I am struggling to read the wiring diagrams I have as they do not give colour codes. Only thing I managed to do is get the cigaret lighter working as this had no power feed it was taped up behind plug. I lost all before I reconnected the power lead.
Would appreciate your input please.

Re: Rear fog lights and red flashing light of doom
I would test the voltage regulator for the dash electrics, see the wiki article Wiki
You mentioned you changed your dash so maybe your replacement dash has a faulty regulator.
E D I T** Just checked the article nad it specifically mentions the gauges rather than the switches though

As you replaced 14 way connector, are you sure that everything is correct there? Get a Haynes manual, although it is for petrol the dash wiring is the same apart from glow plug light and it gives wire colours. Gauges don't use dash earth so if they are not working either voltage reg problem or switched 12V missing.

I would also check that you have 12v going to the live side of the fusebox
Also for your wiring diagram have you seen this useful article on the Brickyard Din Numbers

Hi Marlinowner
I have a copy of post 1985 14 pin connector info sheet also marked on the underside of the dash panel pcb tab connection i feel confident all is as it should be. (i'd post pics but the ones i got are to large to post on here??) they correspond though my dash panel is German. I have ordered a couple of voltage regulators.

Re: Rear fog lights and red flashing light of doom
The voltage regulator would only effect the fuel gauge and temp gauge and I think you have a lot more problems than that.
Photos would really help clarify what gauges/wiring etc that you have - you can reduce the size of photos in Windows Paint - just open the pic in Paint and select 'Resize'

Re: Rear fog lights and red flashing light of doom
Hello All
Update: ok I rechecked all fuses and wiring connections rechecked all earth connectors did not find anything that I would expect to cause this fault. I did purchase a copy of Haynes Vw manual and followed the wiring via that. I took the Dash panel off again and went over Pcb checking connectivity and voltage reading all ok.
I replaced the Dash Panel back into the Van I reconnected up but left it loose so as I could access the wiring, I had a plastic locating piece clipped over where the 14 pin connector Fitted I removed this so as to do some meter checks with power on, well blow me backwards did not all the panel lights work, every panel indicator that should be on when ignition switch on did come on. That got Dash Panel lights sorted, now the rear fog light, there has never been a relay on my fog lights been reading post on here and decided to get one and fit it and heyho they now work.
Mot next week hooray,
Thanks to all who offered advice and tech know how I appreciate your input.
One problem still is red flashing light of doom does not go off flashes continually, I have checked water level which is ok so any tips??? Please.
Many thanks

Re: Rear fog lights and red flashing light of doom
Glad to see you got your lights working properly - With regards to the flashing light, if the fluid levels are ok I'd be inclined to buy a new sensor as they're only cheap.

Re: Rear fog lights and red flashing light of doom
I'd disconnect the connector on the coolant level sensor and jumper the wires together.
If this stops the flashing then the sensor needs replacing.
If it keeps flashing then try pulling the 42/43 relay out - if flashing still continues then the coolant temp gauge circuitry is bad.
If this stops the flashing then the fault is probably the relay or the associated wiring.

Re: Rear fog lights and red flashing light of doom
Flashing coolant light is often due to age-related degradation of the capacator in the temp gauge.
A fix should be in the wiki, swap the old wound mica cap for a modern tantalum type iirc
