Appreciate the help. Will get out there again tomorrow hopefully. So change the timing to 5 after top dead centre too.

Thanks for the update, it's always good to hear how things are turning out.

I understand the comment about the wear on the spindles, this does happen, it can be fixed, but I don't understand the comment about a leak in the choke area.

I believe the verdict on new carbs is that they aren't as good as a set of refurbed original carbs. Others on here will have more experience with them than me so I hope they'll be along soon. If the air leak on the right hand side is fixed, then does that make it useable, even though it may not be perfect ? You can then get the carbs done when there isn't such time pressure

air leak from choke area?

remove the choke elements and the housing screws are usually loose

try moving the choke housing , its common for these to move - they shouldn't!

im glad we have the same thoughts, ive asked for timing to be checked, valves set and also pesky oil seals on push rods, i never got round to it and as they will have it open makes sense in my head, there changing the carb manifold gaskets too, he did say hes seen the leak there (chokes) before and is easy fix. does anyone know the cost of getting carbs rebuilt as i have a spare set in garage that i could send away, as long as he can get my power back and it running okay it will do for the holiday...then save to get carbs refurbed and set up...
i got a good vibe from the guys at the garage so im hopeful
