Fuel gauge and temp. gauge not working.

Post by Wear Sunscreen »

Hi all,
Got into my van today and for some apparent reason neither the fuel gauge nor the temp. gauge are working. Everything else appears to be ok. Hoping for a quick and easy solution (but im sure there wont be one :? ).
Any help would be appreciated.

Most likely the voltage stabiliser, it supplies 10v to the fuel and temp gauges. Its mounted on the back of the clock/ rev counter.

20 - 30 minutes to remove the pod, detach and replace the old voltage stabiliser etc.

1. http://www.gsfcarparts.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; NOT SURE IF THE LINK WILL WORK BUT QUOTE THE PART NUMBER
2. Then select 'Shop' (Third from left on the top)
3. In the 'Part number search' panel ........GSF Part Number...... enter 93681...... then press search. :ok

Or go ....'Search parts by vehicle'....VW Watercooled..... Type 25......category search........Switches senders and instruments........Search.
And third from the bottom of the list is.......... 93681 VOLTAGE STABILIZER T25 5/79 > 11/90 8.95

Cheers.

This should work but has to be mounted "upside down"

I think many of them are the opposite way around...no problem with fitting, just pack out the space with small plain washers (the mounting being on the wrong side) the washers will act as a heat sink so will have a cooling effect).

I seem to remember that some of these needed to touch to transfer excess heat...been to bed since the last one I fitted, however, I am just pointing out that they do get warm so contact helps conduct that heat.

Hi again
Got my new voltage stabiliser and took the dash pod off to inspect the old one which has produced just one query.....is the stabiliser soldered to its connections or is it just a push fit. I havent tried to disconnect it yet but looks almost as if its soldered in. Any help would be appreciated.

Was it a faulty stabiliser then ?

And just to remind "us" (it's a long while since I changed mine) was it soldered or push fit ? (I seem to remember soldered)
